13:50 York - Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Handicap
The opening race of the Festival takes place at 1:50 with a wide-open looking 5 ½f sprint - the Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Handicap. It’s fair to say that CURIOUS ROVER heads to the Knavesmire in the form of his life having claimed a victory at Musselburgh last time out.
The four-year-old, who will be ridden by William Pyle, comes from a yard that excels with their sprinters. Trainer Katie Scott was delighted with the half-length win over Lexington Blitz last time out and a 3lb rise doesn’t look a severe punishment for that success.

15:35 York - Juddmonte International
Last season’s Juddmonte was officially the best flat race in the world, with City of Troy running out victorious, but this year’s contest could be just as good. Ombudsman leads the antepost betting after winning three of his last five races, including victory in the Princes of Wales Stakes at Ascot in June. At a bigger price though, SEE THE FIRE is certainly one to consider having shown some excellent form at the Knavesmire in recent months.
The Andrew Balding-filly is unbeaten in two starts at York, including a 12-length success in the Group 2 Middleton Stakes over the same trip. See The Fire went on to finish third, 4 ½ lengths behind Ombudsman, at Royal Ascot and also finished third in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood last month. The going was heavy at Goodwood and certainly didn’t help her cause and with conditions looking much better this week, the four-year-old looks to have every chance.
She recorded a very quick time at York in mid-May and a reproduction of that run might be enough to see her edge out her rivals in this Group 1 race.

16:10 York - Sky Bet Stayers' Handicap
Another horse heading to York off the back of a win is CHARGING THUNDER, who is one of 13 set to go to post for the final ITV race of Wednesday - the Sky Bet Stayers Handicap. The James Owen-trained gelding looks a big price to build on that Racing League success at Wolverhampton at the end of July.
The seven-year-old should get the strong pace he’ll be looking for and has plenty of experience of the Knavesmire track, with this his eighth run at York.
